Youth Program Leader (Before & After School Provider)

As a Youth Program Leader for our Before & After School Programs, you will engage the children in active and purposeful play in a way that will encourage them to exercise their bodies and minds to discover who they are and what they can achieve.?You will help the children learn, grow, and develop social skills by providing a safe, nurturing and fun environment.?   1. Ensure the safety and engagement of a group of children.

  2. Assist in planning purposeful and engaging activities complimenting the program according to the nine program components and site implementation plan.

  3. Provides assistance with homework and encourages academic progress.

  4. Follows program lesson plans and implementation plan in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of the participants.

  5. Provides careful, attentive supervision and is alert at all times.

  6. Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior and understands positive youth development approaches to the development of youth.

  7. Facilitates a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.

  8. Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication and interactions with others. Maintains on-going communication with Program Coordinator.

  9. Communicates regularly with parents; attends parent/family events as designated by Program Coordinator.

  10. Demonstrates and supports the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.


  1. Must possess oral, auditory and written communications skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.??

  2. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certification or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA (Offered in the YMCA Training Program upon hire).

  3. American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training or equivalent training approved by the YMCA (Offered in the YMCA Training Program upon hire).

  4. Approved Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Certification (Offered in the YMCA Training Program upon hire).

  5. Y Leaders Orientation (Offered in the YMCA Training Program upon hire).

  6. Y Emergency Procedures Training (Offered in the YMCA Training Program upon hire).

  7. Approval by State of Iowa Licensing requirements including pre-employment physical.

  8. Must be at least 16 years of age (if under 18, must be working with an adult 18+).

  9. Must be capable of implementing the daily administrative, program related, and supervisory responsibilities of a school age site.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
